Although our members contribute to our San Marcos community in many
and varied ways each day, our favorite method is "hands-on" involvement with children, families, and seniors.
Below are
some of the many ways in which Kiwanians are making a difference in our community. |

| It is a well-kept secret that an estimated 50,000
brave, quiet, older Americans live below poverty in San Diego County.
Angel's Depot Mission
Statement states: "The Angel's Depot was founded to provide food for the elderly poor living in San Diego County
and to help improve the quality of their lives. Further, it is the mission of The Angel's Depot to promote community awareness
and support for the impoverished senior's plight and to act as a conduit to other available senior resources."
We are proud to help this non-profit provide "food and dignity for seniors living in poverty in San Diego County."

| Heartpower Performances
Heartpower Performances feature San Diego State
University students acting as role models for at-risk students by demonstrating to them how music and dance is a vehicle for
redirecting energy toward positive change.
Sponsored by the SDSU President’s Leadership Fund and
Innovative Employee Solutions, Heartpower Performances currently serve the students of the San Diego Juvenile Justice Department’s
Breaking Cycles program and the Monarch School for homeless youth. Breaking Cycles is a family-centered program
with a team approach to juvenile delinquency prevention and intervention. This collaboration includes the Health and Human
Services Agency, Mental Health agencies, Educational Systems, Community Based Organizations, families and community members.
The team utilizes the family’s strengths to develop and implement a plan, which focuses on delinquency intervention
by employing a comprehensive and collaborative system of graduated sanctions and treatment to break the cycle of delinquency
and substance abuse.
The Kiwanis Club of San Marcos is proud to support this program through our fundraising efforts
with "Noodles & Company" in San Marcos.

| Every year, over 7,500
children from San Marcos are treated at Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego - the region's only Pediatric Trauma
hospital.
All year long, members drop their lose change in our "Coins for Kids" donation jar
at our weekly meetings (raising over $500 each year) and then join Kiwanis Clubs from all over San Diego County at the
Miracle Mile of Quarters event in May.
We also help man phones at the Children's Hospital Radio-thon
from 6 am to 6 pm four days each year.
Between these two events, Kiwanis Clubs from San Diego County raised
over $90,000 last year for Pediatric Trauma.

| Homeless
teens are often the unseen population in North San Diego County. They're here and their needs are many!
In addition to
helping homeless and at-risk youth with immediate necessities such as food, clothing, shelter and personal hygiene, STANDUP FOR KIDS offers a wide array of services, including: assistance in finding housing; education
assistance; vocational development; counseling; health services; transportation to self-help meetings; and legal assistance.
Volunteers also conduct life-skills training, covering such areas as budgeting, banking, apartment cleanliness and safety,
shopping and cooking, nutrition, and hygiene. Laundry services and lunch and snack facilities are made available, as well
as mail and message services.
Whether we're stuffing backpacks with basic necessities or volunteering at the
teen center, Kiwanis members are proud to contribute to this very valuable program! |
